The Mystery of Mithraism

Mithraism was a mystery cult because it was private. The liturgy was secret. It was only revealed once you were part of the religion. You weren't supposed to talk about Mithraism outside of it. To people outside, it was very mysterious and it makes it even harder for us today as archaeologists and historians to be able to understand it.
