The Jainas' Teachings on Karma

Jainism takes its name from the honorific Jina or conqueror bestowed upon Mahavira. The Jaina teaching on karma presupposes a dualist understanding of the human person according to which the soul is an immaterial entity that enters into a relation with the physical world. Through extreme practices the Jaina ascetic can divest him or herself of all karma and attain the status of a kevalin meaning someone who is alone without accretion of karma.
