The last time Rita erupted, an airplane got caught in the ash cloud and nearly crashed. Redout's first warning sign came in summer two thousand eight. That rotten egg smell turned out to be a major sign that redoubt might be getting ready to erupt. And so then we started keeping a closer eye on red with the earthquakes happening there.
