Philosophers like to deal with extreme cases. Let's go to the extreme case of a votral reality, where it's indistinguishable from ours. Analyze that and then draw conclusions about coming technology. If those are on a power with the virtual worlds of simulations, that gives us some reason to think that even these realistic virtual worlds might be real. Those might be meaningful too.
We spend more time in digital, virtual spaces than ever. But are those places really real? If they are, does that mean we could be living in virtual reality right now? Or does it even make sense to ask such a question? Philosopher David Chalmers joins Adam to talk about consciousness, the nature of reality, and the limits of digital technology.
