Kevin Mitchell: How Did Free Will Evolve?

Mind-Body Solution

CHAPTER

The Hard Problem and the Meta Problem

I think it's fascinating because when David Thomas discusses as the hard problem, you see how years later it's now become the meta problem. So we have these observations, these phenomena we want to explain. We have some challenges to them. And what I hoped to do in the book was present a framework that meets those challenges and says, look, nothing in neuroscience or physics or psychology or behavioral genetics rules out free will. It may rule out the philosophical, abstract, absolutist version of free will, which I think is incoherent from the get go. If that's a constraint on your behavior, it's a good constraint, right?
