The Origins of Fantasy
Ina, also, my mam was an english major, so i read all the nineteenth century childrens lit. That actually, in some ways, is the beginnings of fantasis at genre. And nhot coincidentally, is hugely shaped by imperialism. I came to see it as the thing that shaped the power dynamics that we live with to day,. And i think it also shaped our fantasy literature. In a lot of the early books that were formative to the genre were about adventure as defined in a very colonial sense.
