The Hatfield squat is just a squat where you have your hands on like, I guess bars in front of you. You can get great propulsive knee extension when you've got great that pull from the glutes beforehand to set it up. It's like getting down in the either split squat or the goblet squat and then keeping the shin angle forward and using your glutes to pull the hips forward and keeping the rib cage back. Nick speaking of too much weight, I would see people who would put a ton of weight on the bar and then they'd have their hands on the so-called "hatfields"
