"We desperately wanted to talk about Ruby and Hart and this feeling of terrifying grief because it was something we never felt before," Gail says. "People were very scared to talk to us in the early days, like terrified." The couple developed a 'grief spiel' that they would pull people aside for one-on-one conversations. They later had more specificity when she went back to work as a director.
