Ponte Veccio - A Street With a Difference

Ponte veccio is a foot bridge that crosses the ano river in Florence. Originally there were all kinds of shops here, including butchers and fishmongers. A medici duke objected to the market place atmosphere so they replaced them with goldsmiths and jewellers. As you walk across the bridge, you notice that every window is full of glittering gold rings, bracelets and necklaces. It's known as the vasari corridor.
