In 1996 Colonel Hackworth wrote an article about then Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Jay Bordeaux charging the Admiral with wearing a medal on his uniform that he did not rate. The fallout from the article left a small tribe of senior naval officers with a strong aversion to Hackworth and his perspectives.
