The Life and Times of a Brazilian Dreamer

Paolo was committed to an institution several times by his parents because they did not want him to be a writer. They tried bribing him, cutting off all his money, having a psychiatrist evaluate him and then ultimately committing him. He escaped three times. Later on in the 70s,. he says he was arrested by the military government and tortured. So he gets out of the institution. He's like, OK, I'll go to college and I'll be a lawyer. And he drops out after one year and travels around. It's the 60s. He gets really into experimenting with drugs and black magic. We will talk about it more specifically than that later in the episode.
