Comparing the Situation in Srilanca to the Situation in Venezuela

i am sometimes guilty of viewing tragedies taking place in other parts of the world as being so far removed, they are so different. You know, for example, it seems like in some parts of the middle east there's just always conflict. Well, it'll be interesting here to kind of compare and contrast the situation in srilanca to the situation in venezuela. And in so many respects, it looks to me just like the us.
