Is There a Trade-Off?

The assessment system prioritizes very clearly explicit knowledge it has to by definition. We could actually have more practical assessments in a whole range of subjects, but we tend not to do so because the fact is intrude and they tend to be more expensive. The extreme example here is America, the United States, which spends something like $150,000 educating each child on average across the US. And yet because they evaluate student achievement with multiple choice tests, they compromise that huge amount of money. If you don't do that, then when the stakes are high, people will focus on the things that get assessed. I mean, this is what Lauren Resnick calls tests worth teaching to. So
