How Do You Create Personas Based on Research?

As a researcher, one of my favorite deliverables is personas. A lot of designers create their own personas based on research they've done themselves or others. Sometimes it's not based on any research, but more so based on assumptions and hypotheses. It really does just kind of depend on the group that you're working with and the individuals who's on that team.
