The History of the Icelandic Language
Icelandic comes from old norse, the common language that was spoken in iceland and norway. The spelling is more or less the same as it was 800 years ago. We have a unique piece of textis called the first grammatical treatise. It's a detailed description of the sound system of language. And we don't notice that because we obviously do not have any recordings from old icelandics.
