The Origins of Welfare State Capitalism
It's very interesting how he was kind of at the forefront of what you might call today welfare state capitalism. There were not many Americans during this period who would be described as urbanist, and I think not surprisingly so because cities were places that were literally full of manure and full of disease. He argued for a welfare state and for the development of cities at a time in which welfareism was really had a minimal role in American political thought.
