The Importance of a CNS Infection in an Emergency Department
A 75 year old female arrives in your ED with complaints of new onset gradual generalized headache over two weeks. Review of systems reveals a possible low grade fever and malaise. She's been stressed out about the pandemic and not sleeping well. There are no localizing features to the headache and no previous history of similar headache. Headaches and older people are much more likely to be concerning than headaches and younger people.
