The Sea People's Warfare

The sea people broke like waves through the major Bronze Age civilizations, with only Egypt being able to finally push them back. So was this why the people of Eastern Crete fled to Carphy and other mountain sanctuaries? To escape from raiders coming in from the sea? It's quite possible. These mountain strongholds including Carphy were well defended and hard to approach. Some, like Carphy, could only be entered by climbing up handholds carved in the cliffs. There is absolutely a self-defense element to this. And it's important to note that these villages were facing the sea so people could watch the sea at all times.
