Duelle: It seemed at points like we were hearing Alabama say as long as it's not shouted from the rooftops that this is being done with racial animus. And there was a nice moment when Sonia Sotomayor essentially said they're very scrupulously careful to protect the integrity and history of white districts. There doesn't seem to be that kind of solicitude for black districts, Duelle says. "It just was very hard to understand particularly because I think throughout the argument you had some of the justices begging him to back off this maximalist argument," he adds.
