The Importance of Rome in the Renaissance

Rome has never returned to its glory days of the Baroque. It stopped being the center of the universe, basically for two main reasons. Italy was not unified as a country until late in the 19th century. Science started thriving in the north where it was left alone by the Reformation and Protestants weren't that interested in science.
