The Role of Violence in the Making of History

Herbert Marcuse had a student named Angela Davis who went on to inspire the entire first generation of black feminist and critical race thinkers as those things emerged. She was very neo-Marxist like her mentor Marcuse and maybe our right Marxist in many ways she would have been in that kind of socialist or materialist analysis of race this inspired Derek Bell whose work is still dominant today for the most part. He believed that racism is the ordinary state of society he believed that dominant races of white people don't give black people opportunities unless it's also in their own self-interest so that's a very cynical and pessimistic read of racial progress.
