As a boy, Marino lived with his family at 186 Lincoln Ave. He was expelled from school in the sixth grade so he didn't complete his education. By 1932, Red was unemployed and homeless, but he was a regular at Marino's. And Marino let him serve as bartender, for which he was sometimes paid a dollar a day.
