The kitchen became a metaphor for women's social status in the 70s. Judy Chicago and Miriam Shapiro turned it into a menstruation bathroom. The response of people was very, very interesting. They had 10,000 visitors to this exhibition. People loved it. The critics hated it. But it was open-the-flood gates for feminist art.
