What Happened in Wilmington, North Carolina?

Daniels was chosen by the Democratic Party in North Carolina to devise a way to disenfranchise blacks while not disenfranchising whites. His son, Jonathan Worth Daniels, talked about his father's plan in an oral history in the 70s. By 1914, every southern state had passed laws mandating segregation. During the civil rights era in the 60s, the country tried to undo the legacy of those Jim Crow laws.
