Is DevOps a Better Productivity Engine?

As we started to fast forward into building more of a digital infrastructure, the work being done by a developer is very hard to understand. The platonic ideal of a DevOps team is no team at all, right, pure automation and bots. Whereas I think to do DPE correctly, you really have to have somebody who's empathetic to the experience to be driven enough to cascade better practices down.
