Is Number Theory the Most Important Thing in Math?
Numbers are the most obvious thing when people think of math. We don't care about ratisna numbers. Integers let us subtract, but we can't subtract natural get another natural number. It's easier for us to work with rationals because rationals form a field which means we can divide by natural numbers and stay inside the world of natural numbers.
