CHAPTER

Predo Dominance in the College Admissions Model

The researchers used the idea of predo dominance, which is popular in the economics literature. They found that if you were to limit yourself to these causal definitions of fairness, the policies that will result would be Pareto dominated. And so what does that mean to be concrete? So if I give you any policy that satisfies your causal definition of fairness, I can come up with another policy that has both student biodiversity and higher admissions graduation rates. Because it has both of these two things, everybody on the admissions committee will think that is better than the policy that you generated through this causal fairness mechanism.
