Do You Have a Lactase Tolerance?
Only about 35% of the population around the world continues to produce lactase into adulthood and is thus able to digest lactose, the sugar in milk. Your personal tolerance of lactose will depend on your genetic heritage. Most people have mixed genetic heritage. So you can think of lactose tolerance as more of a spectrum than off on black, white, binary function. That's what I've seen in my clinical practice working with thousands of patients over the years. There are many ways that you can still benefit from dairy if you choose to, even if you can't digest it.
