The Medicare Rebate Just Hasn't Keeping Up With Inflation

Medicare rebate has been frozen for about 10 years. So it doesn't go up with inflation. The first time that ever went up was the 1st of July 2022, by about 1.6 to 1.7%. This means as costs rise over the years and rebates are still frozen, the gap fees across the board for GP specialists and non-GP specialists rises. And guess who pays that gap fee? You, the patient. I think this is on purpose by the federal government. They want to make sure you pay more for your healthcare rather than calling it a tax.
