The Vulnerability of African Countries to Global Supply Chains

Nigeria opened Africa's largest fertilizer production facility which has begun shipping fertilizer to the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico. Morocco is home to 70% of the world's known phosphate reserves have committed to upping its fertilizer production by more than 8 million tons over the next three years. The economic incentives to produce fertilizer domestically are just not there, especially for smaller low income states in Sub-Saharan Africa. In short term it's impossible to fill the gap that we've seen as a result of those countries not being able to supply as much.
