Climate Change and the Flood Myth
The flood myth is central to China's creation story. There are plenty of examples in Chinese history where when the flood waters came in, it was a sign from the heavens that the emperor had lost his mandate. But on the practical level, it also was a sign that the emperors, that his administration, that it was corrupt and they weren't really taking care of the nuts and bolts of managing the water. So it's not all mystical. It's just also very practical that the people would revolt after major floods. A reminder that you're listening to the real story from the BBC with Ritala Shah.
