Dollar Debt in FX Swaps and Forwards, Missing and Growing
The BIS is the home of international banking regulations that most countries sign on to regulate their financial systems in these countries. Non banks outside the US owe as much as 25 trillion in such missing debt from up from 17 trillion in 2016. Much of this debt is very short term and the resulting rollover needs make the dollar fund make for funding squeezes. Policy responses include central bank swap lines that are set in a farm.
