The Numbers of the People of Israel
Numbers 26 records the second census of the book, taken before they were to enter into the promised land. It occurs after the plague of chapter 25, in which 24 thousand people were killed. Not one of them was left, except caleb, the son of japana and joshua the son of nan. Their inheritance shall be divided according to lot, between the larger and the smaller. But the land shall be divided by lot according to the names of the tribes of their fathers.
