The Dangers of Taking Saipan
At least a thousand Japanese civilians killed themselves in advance of the American military because they were told that the Americans were coming to rape, torture, castrate, and murder any Japanese civilian they found. The battle of Saipan was important because it changed the way the Japanese population saw the war. "I'm gonna get a lot of stuff figured out by the next time you want to kill those are no but you wanted to kill," he says.
