The Devil and the Salem Witch Trials

The word devil comes from the ancient Greek word diabolos, which means the slanderer or the deceiver. The Salem witch trials are a well-known example of how Europeans tried to impose their faith on an indigenous people who weren't Christian. It's no wonder the community panic wound itself up into a fever pitch in 1691. As far as they were concerned, the devil was real, and was hiding inside every shadow in the wilderness around them.
