How to Minimize the Lagrangian Right?

The Lagrangian is a function of the generalized coordinates and then the time derivatives. The Hamiltonian however is afunction of the generalized coordinate and the generalized momentum of each generalized coordinate. So if you use Hamiltonian mechanics it'll be in theory easier to solve. And so what you're doing is just rewriting everything in terms of P instead of Q dot.
