How Does Frederick Douglass' Slavery Affect Us?
I want to set the context for slavery into which Frederick Douglass was born. Obviously slavery does enormous physical harm to the victims. But you also have some nice discussions in your book about the subtler or at least somewhat less obvious harms that slavery does. So can you give us a sense of how slavery constitutes a total assault on the individual? Yeah, that's a very good way of putting it. And that actually was one of the most important things Douglass did as a thinker was to emphasize these aspects of slavery.
