Sally Kohn: Nodding is a very open right. When we nod, we're taking it in, we're agreeing. Research finds that when you slow nod at me, and i love a good slonot rigt, a, one, a, two, a, three, i speak three to four times longer. If someone is leaning, nodding, smiling, eyebrow raising at you, it is very likely you can trust them.
You may have heard this advice at some point in your life, “don’t listen to what people say, watch what they do.” Nonverbal communication can be more authentic and transparent than the things we verbally communicate. Vanessa Van Edwards, behavioral investigator, reminds us that nonverbal communication and cues can also send the wrong message if a person is nervous or anxious.
