The Sputnik Crisis
Sputnik was just under 2 feet across, and it weighed 180 pounds. Inside that sphere was a big battery, temperature sensors, barometric pressure sensors,. The transmitter was wired up to a set of 4 antennas that trailed behind the satellite. Sputnik would broadcast 2 signals, 1 at 40 megahertz and 1 at 20 megahertz.
