The South African Missing Persons Task Team
South Africa's post-apartheid history is held up as something of an example to the rest of the world. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission began hearings in 1996, but that wasn't the end of the effort to dig up the past. Madeleine Foulard has led South Africa's Missing Persons Task Team since it was set up in 2005. Its mission is to trace and if possible locate the remains of those who disappeared during the country's apartheid regime.
