CHAPTER

The Assyrians and the Levant

As migrations were taking place peoples were moving in great numbers to try to find and establish new settlements. The more successful migrations that were taking place added to the number of displaced peoples. Kingdoms were breakdown as cities would effectively have to fend for themselves like Ugarit was left to be destroyed. These mass migrations of peoples would migrate over both land and sea hence why the Egyptians believed that the peoples attacking them were sea peoples. Egypt's weakest boundaries were its Mediterranean shores. An area of the Levant appears to have been settled by peoples adept at making pottery in the style of the Mycenaeans so perhaps these people became what we know today as the Philistines.
