Russian Influence in Central Asia Is on the Decline
I was in the South Caucasus back in March and already I could feel that when the three day war didn't end in three days, there were already people thinking maybe there's going to be a recalculation of our approach to Moscow. As James said, Russian influence in this region is on the decline. In some cases the US has taken advantage of the situation. However, I feel like we're missing other opportunities in Central Asia. No setting US president has ever visited Central Asia. We've had very minimal engagement at the cabinet secretary level in that region. The one country to keep an eye on in this region are Turkey.
