Exodus is arguably one of the most important narratives for understanding the entire Bible. The deliverance from Egypt is what we usually think about, but actually he's freeing them to become his people and to serve him. For the rest of the Bible, it's the moment that Israel looks back on as the moment when they became God's people. All of those themes find their origin in this story.
