The Emotional Part of the ACAT Process
There are some securities that cannot be transferred through the ACAT process. If they're for every reason in an IRA, it's not a problem because you can just sell the stuff in the IRA and move over the cash. And there are some non-publicly traded securities, potentially hedge funds, things like that, where the ACAT system wouldn't work. So this really is only going to be an issue for your taxable brokerage account.
