Apollo 7: The Land of Man on the Moon in This Decade

The Apollo program was a competition with the Russians. They wanted to get there by the end of the sixties, and we were going to beat them there. It was all a political game, but it was not a laughable one in those days. We took that seriously. I tried to design our patch like the Phoenix recovering from a fire. But they didn't even really want us to name the spacecraft so we didn't have a named spacecraft. So we were called Apollo 7, which was kind of nice. Seven was a nice number.
