Quantum Mechanics - What Is the Wave Function?

In classical physics, we usually use three numbers to describe where something is. But in quanto mechanics you need an infinity of numbers spread out across all space. So the numbers are higher in some spots and lower in others. And usually what we say the wave function represents is that it's to do with the probability of finding the electron in a particular spot when we look. Which makes it sound like the way function isn't really a thing in nature, and it's just a lot more about our information.
