Facebook has attempted to address this with various content moderation strategies, but the company does so while also trying to walk a fine line and not trigger criticism from various sources such as the conservative right. People who are neither targeted nor pulled into group think might find themselves just distressed over the whole thing. It's pretty ugly stuff. And this is how misinformation and hate speech takes hold on facebook. The algrithm, which is, again, content agnostic, recognizes that whatever is being posted is effective, and that's all that really matters. So we get an amplification chamber.
