Is Participatory Surveillance Just Like Watching and Being Watched?
I don't know if i buy this whole notion of participatory surveillance as being joyful, but i came across another form of seemingly positive surveillance. The idea that the expansion of surveillance might offer modes of resistance against large scale institutions. Rather than just being watched, now we are in a position to watch back so we can act through our own capacity and check on centralized forms of power. I think it plays to the side of me that likes to craft a self that has an aesthetic dimension. It's just like watching and being watched. Yet, you like the gazey.
