Is Enlightenment Liberalism a Mistake?
There's been a widespread sense that enlightenment liberalism has really failed. A conservative begins with the question, what needs to be done in order that my family, miy try, my nation, the groups, the group that i am loyal to, my religion? And that is a question that liberals simply cannot and they can't answer. They don't have the tools in their tradition to answer it. If they were asking that question, then they would become conservatives. But they don't want to answer that question, because answering that question immediately puts you intention with the assumption of individual liberty is the highest good and equalityd consent.
