The Apocalypse of the Empire

This is the period of greatest peace and prosperity and power. Yet at each juncture, it feels like there's this anxiety. There's this sort of sense of the precariousness of the empire. And so I think what is going on here is an attempt to try and get the Roman Empire back on a kind of stable moral footing.
